The sustainable development of society is at the core of our research on mechatronics. We address important topics of the future, such as the transition to a new energy and mobility system and resource efficiency, and focus on new approaches to digitization and human-centered technology.
In the application-oriented research groups we investigate various topics in the vehicle, energy and robotics industries. The spectrum ranges from research and development at component level to a broad system approach. In the basic research-oriented group General Vibration Systems, mechanical vibrations are investigated and intelligent actuators are used to improve the system performance.
Our activities also focus on cross-sectional topics that are worked on across the research groups. System integration, system understanding and interdisciplinary system development are key competences of the IMS. This includes not only the linking of the core disciplines of classical mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science, but also includes links to ecology, economics and the human sciences.
The sector integration of mobility and energy is particularly challenging in terms of system integration and system understanding. By linking the competences in the fields of e-mobility and smart grids, the IMS is predestined to accelerate the development of cross-sectoral solutions. In the field of digitization, we are also intensively engaged in artificial intelligence, data-driven methods and theoretical and experimental modelling. Our approaches to verification and validation range from virtual simulation to testing of real prototypes or complex test benches. Mechatronic technology should also always focus on the human being, thus, their interaction represents a further research topic of our group.
