Dr.-Ing. Andreas Viehmann

Andreas Viehmann studied Mechanical and Process Engineering at TU Darmstadt and Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg/Sweden. Even during his studies, he focused on topics related to powertrain systems for vehicles (e.g. electrification, hybridization, and mechatronic systems).

Since December 2014, he is part of the research group “Vehicle Systems” at the IMS. As a doctoral candidate, he worked on innovative electrified vehicle drives in the field of E-Mobility. One focus was the development and testing of the Two-Drive-Transmission with Range-Extender (DE-REX), which he also investigated in further detail in his dissertation (title of the dissertation: “Extended Operation Strategy for Dedicated Parallel-Series Hybrid Powertrains considering the Acoustic Comfort"). Furthermore, he worked on the conceptual design, development, and testing of novel electric and dedicated hybrid powertrain systems.

Since December 2019, Mr. Viehmann is head of the research group “Vehicle Systems” at the IMS.
