The English-language master's course SPES (6 CP) is the continuation of the bachelor's courses “Machine Elements and Mechatronics” and “Product Design Projects”. In SPES, basic knowledge and initial project experience from the bachelor's degree are deepened and supplemented by elements of smart engineering and future trends. Furthermore, market and business aspects are covered.
In a nine-week project phase, students apply what they have learned and refine their soft skills and ability to work in teams. In small groups, the students solve a development task that involves the design of a kinematic system and the development of a control system for vibration compensation of a test mass. The constructive solutions are realized in a Maker Space (3D printer & laser cutter) and the control algorithms are implemented on a microcontroller. Subsequently, the solutions found will be tested on a vibration test bench. Beforehand, the students have the opportunity to prepare for the practical part of the project phase in flipped-classroom exercises. The course is concluded with a written exam.
SPES is a cooperation between Faculty 1 (FB 1) Law and Economics and Faculty 16 (FB 16) Mechanical Engineering. The Department of Technology and Innovation Management (TIM) of FB 1 and the Institutes of Product Development and Machine Elements (pmd) and of Mechatronic Systems (IMS) of FB 16 jointly provide the content. The project phase is supervised by pmd and IMS.
