Completion of Campus FreeCity project

After 35 months of intensive research and development, the Campus FreeCity mobility project has come to an extremely positive conclusion. A consortium of eight partners from industry and science, supported by three associated partners, has made decisive progress in the integration of autonomous, modular vehicles in urban areas.

Stephan Rinderknecht, Head of the Institute of Mechatronic Systems (IMS) at TU Darmstadt, emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration:

‘When researching innovative and disruptive mobility concepts such as the CityBot ecosystem, it is particularly important to work in an interdisciplinary manner and to incorporate aspects of sustainability with the three dimensions of ecology, economy and social issues.’

The Technical University of Darmstadt and five of its institutes were scientific partners in the project. This enabled all relevant dimensions to be comprehensively researched, resulting in valuable scientific findings for the mobility systems of the future.

We would like to thank all the partners and institutes involved for their excellent cooperation and look forward to further research in this field.
