David Mandel, M.Sc.

David Mandel studied Optical Engineering and Image Processing (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, specializing during his master’s in deep learning algorithms for image processing. His master’s thesis at BASF SE focused on the generation of synthetic datasets for deep learning in agronomy, followed by an internship in the same field.

Afterwards, he worked as a software developer in a medium-sized company, where he initially focused on image processing before shifting towards full-stack development, building applications with large language models and retrieval-augmented generation.

Since July 2025, he has been part of the Energy Systems research group at IMS, working on the StoLanKI project, which is supported by the Distr@l funding program and aims to prepare a future spin-off.
