Vehicle Systems

Mechatronic systems approaches play a key role in the development of today's vehicles. The research and development in the field of Vehicle Systems at the IMS is intended to contribute to a sustainable transport and energy transition.

The objectives are, among others, to improve the ecology of the vehicles and the subjective driving and shifting comfort as well as to reduce costs. The main areas of investigation range from the development, modelling and testing of transmission technology to complete electrified drive systems. One focus is on the novel fully electric and hybrid multi-speed drive concepts with two electric motors, which have already been investigated in numerous projects starting from simulative optimization up to the physical testing of demonstrators.

In the process of the digitalization of the automobile, new research topics on artificial intelligence and on data-driven development methods are also opening up. These main topics are also addressed at the IMS in the Vehicle 5.0 research cooperation.
