Powertrain test bench CONNECT

The IMS CONNECT with two load machines enables realistic testing of drive systems in inline and transverse arrangements. A synchronous machine is used as the prime mover, which can reproduce the highly dynamic system behavior of both an internal combustion engine and a traction electric motor. In addition, integrated electric and hybrid drive concepts including e-machines and power electronics can also be investigated at IMS CONNECT.

Gear shift test bench InnoShift

In the field of vehicle systems, the InnoShift (Innovative, modular test bench to analyse gear shifts in electrified powertrains) is a test environment for investigating gear shifting processes, in particular with dog clutches and new types of shift actuators for electrified powertrains. The modularity of the setup allows the investigation of different shift actuators and shift components in different scenarios for different powertrains.

DroPs

To enable a proper comparison between different powertrain concepts, a holistic optimization environment was set up at the IMS (DrOPs: Driving-optimal Powertrains). To ensure the best possible comparability, uniform requirements, usage profiles and boundary conditions are used as a basis. Within the optimization, a quality function-based operating strategy is used to determine the quasi-optimal operating behavior for each powertrain parameterization. By determining the optimal design and operation of each powertrain concept, a uniform evaluation basis is created, which enables the robust comparison of different drive concepts under the equivalent requirements.

Synthesis of representative driving cycles based on large amounts of measurement data

With regard to the testing of vehicles or individual powertrain components on a test bench, synthetic driving cycles are indispensable, as carrying out a test with the entirety of the originally available operating data would be very time-consuming and cost-intensive, or would not be feasible at all. But synthetic driving cycles are also important for simulative computer-aided powertrain development in order to reduce the computational effort involved in evaluating many different parameterizations of a powertrain.
